Wealth and privilege can buy so much, the most unacceptable purchase is the get out of jail free card

How a Billionaire Pedophile Went Free

Roman Polanski isn't the only man of privilege to evade justice for grotesque crimes. Hedge fund mogul Jeffrey Epstein will be released from house arrest today, five years after he was accused of molesting underage girls from around the world—including three he brought over from France as a birthday gift. Epstein has been under house arrest in Palm Beach for a year, convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor. Before that, he spent 13 months in the Palm Beach stockade, and was allowed to leave every day to visit his office. His alleged victims said he flew them abroad on private jets, which could have been considered sex trafficking, a far more serious crime than the one he was convicted of. Seven girls reached million-dollar settlements with Epstein, who's worth more than $2 billion. The Daily Beast's Conchita Sarnoff has the exclusive details of the investigation—and how his connections to powerful people at the highest levels of government worldwide may have helped Epstein escape justice.
